Lincoln men wrap up recruiting class

The Lincoln men's basketball team has completed its roster for the 2013-14 season.

Head coach John Redmond announced the signing of five players Wednesday.

Clay Crouch and Mike Smith are transferring in and will be juniors next season. Blake Derickson, Rob Hopkins and Aaron Spudich will enter as freshmen.

"Overall, I'm really looking forward to the upcoming year with this recruiting class," Redmond said in a release from the school. "This is one of the best we've had since I've been here, in part because of the four freshmen. They'll provide a good foundation for the next three, four years down the road. I think the versatility of this year's class, combined with the people we've got coming back, will fill all the points where we were lacking a year ago."

Crouch comes to Lincoln from North Arkansas College where he averaged 15.6 points per game. He made 81 3-pointers and shot 90 percent from the free-throw line last year. Crouch, a 6-1 guard originally from Wheatland, also has played at Culver-Stockton College.

Smith, a 6-5 guard, has attended Westchester Community College (N.Y.) and Salt Lake City Community College. He averaged 15.6 points per game as a sophomore.

Derickson, a 6-9 forward from Oshkosh, Wis., averaged 10 points per game his senior season.

Hopkins averaged 13 points per game as a senior at L'Anse Creuse North High School in Macomb, Mich. The 6-3 guard was a two-year starter.

Spudich is a 6-6 forward and averaged 12 points and nine rebounds per game during his senior season at Maplewood Richmond Heights in St. Louis. His best performance came in a game against Chaminade during the 2011-12 season when he scored 23 points and grabbed 13 rebounds.

The five join Helias senior Dylan Gish, who signed in the fall, and Jefferson City High School senior DeShon Williams.
