Lincoln drops doubleheader to Southwest Baptist

BOLIVAR - The Lincoln baseball team couldn't hold onto a pair of early leads and suffered a doubleheader sweep Wednesday at Southwest Baptist.

Lincoln fell 13-5 in the first game. The Blue Tigers, who served as the home team, led 4-0 after two innings but the Bearcats added six in the third, three in the fourth, two in the fifth and two in the sixth to come away with the victory.

Drew Miller hit a grand slam and Ross Wolfe added a three-run homer for SBU. Lincoln's Brad Wright added a solo home run in the third, but it wasn't enough for Lincoln.

Logan Smith, Ben Stewart and Jonathan Grisham had two hits each for Lincoln.

Nathan Lueckenhoff took the loss. He allowed six runs on six hits and two walks.

It wasn't much better in the second game as Lincoln committed four errors and lost 14-5.

Lincoln led 4-3 after three, but the Bearcats added five in the fourth inning on three solo home runs and an RBI single.

After a Grisham RBI single in the sixth made the score 8-5, Southwest Baptist put the game away with six runs in the seventh.

Scott Jones took the loss for Lincoln. He allowed eight runs (seven earned) on 10 hits in 3 2/3 innings.

Colby Shepherd and Stewart had three hits each for Lincoln. Cody Huff, Ryan Rohmiller, Grisham and Andrew St. Pierre had two hits each.

Southwest Baptist (18-21, 16-15 Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association) outhit Lincoln 16-15.

The Blue Tigers (5-28, 4-24 MIAA) are back in action Saturday when they open a three-game series against Northwest Missouri State at Lincoln Field.
