One taken into custody for weekend attempted robbery in JC

On Saturday at 6:53 p.m., Jefferson City police officers were flagged down by several employees of Wal-Mart on West Stadium.

The employees said a black male, armed with a knife, tried to shoplift at their facility and displayed the knife in a threatening manner to one of their store employees.

The employees also said the suspect was last seen walking southeast through the parking lot towards Menards.

Officers located the suspect near the southeast entrance to Wal-Mart by the Stadium Plaza West.

Once the suspect saw the officers, he ran behind the Stadium Plaza West near Central Missouri Athletics (CMA) located at 748 W. Stadium. One officer chased the subject on foot and another proceeded in a vehicle to the 700 block of W. Stadium to cut him off.

The suspect was located on the private lot of CMA.

The suspect was still armed with a black handled, fixed blade knife in his right hand.

Officers held the subject at gunpoint and verbally ordered the suspect to drop the knife and to lie on the ground.

The subject refused and began to pace back and forth.

The suspect said "I'm not going back to prison" as he continued to pace back and forth, looking for an escape route.

Officers advised the suspect if he did not drop the knife, he would be Tasered.

The suspect yelled go ahead, lifted his sweatshirt up, and presented his frontal left side.

An officer deployed his Taser, striking the suspect, which caused him to drop the knife, fall to the ground and the suspect was taken into custody.

Officers were not harmed and the suspect had minor injuries caused by the Taser barbs.

The suspect, Dareon Dashon Davis, a 23 year old Jefferson City resident, was transported Capitol Region Hospital, treated for minor injuries and then was taken to the Cole County jail for armed robbery and resisting arrest.
