Your Opinion: Projections don’t add up
Sunday, April 14, 2013
Remember all the rhetoric we have heard about budget cuts. The president’s recently released 2014 budget proposal shows, without a shadow of a doubt, that we are being lied to by the government and the media.
Under his budget federal spending would increase 60 percent between fiscal 2012 and fiscal 2023. The smallest projected deficit, even after his proposed massive new tax increases, is $439 billion in 2023. This is more than any deficit ever recorded prior to 2008.
Even the annual deficits that are shown in his budget are lies (fabrications of accountants?). The national debt always increases more than the supposed deficit. Take a look at the deficits during the Clinton years. One set of data shows that there were budget surpluses during the four year period 1998-2001 while another set shows that the national debt increased every one of those years.
Obama is currently spending twice what was spent during 2001, the first year of the Bush presidency. He wants to double the taxes collected by the federal government (a 92 percent increase) from 2013 to 2023. Even after adjusting for inflation and population growth his budget still increases taxes by 30 percent from 2014 to 2023. The guy won’t be happy until the federal government has control of everything. Do you remember how well the Soviet Union functioned? I think it must be the model for Obama’s version of the United States.
At the end of FY2009, the last year of the Bush presidency, the national debt was $11.9 trillion. (It increased by $6.1 trillion during the Bush presidency) Obama projects that, if his budget is approved, it will be $20.9 trillion at the end of his Presidency, fiscal 2017, an increase of $9.0 trillion. This is even with his massive new tax increases. Don’t forget that the Bush budgets included paying for the TARP bailouts while the Obama budgets take credit for the bailout money being paid back.
If you think Americans are so ignorant that they are unfit to control their own lives, and you don’t mind saddling all future generations with more massive debt, by all means keep supporting BO and the incredible increase in the growth of the federal government.
