NASHVILLE, Tenn. — The Vanderbilt Commodores showed why they’re the third-ranked baseball team in the nation, as they ripped Missouri 16-4 on Sunday to complete a three-game sweep of the Tigers.
Vanderbilt outscored Missouri 39-10 in the three-game series sweep and pounded out 54 hits.
Missouri dropped to 12-20 on the season and 4-11 in Southeastern Conference play, while Vanderbilt, which has won 14 straight, moved to 32-4 and 14-1.
Missouri starter Keaton Steele was tagged with his second loss of the season after allowing nine runs (eight earned) over 32⁄3 innings while walking four and striking out three.
The Commodores scored three runs in the first, one in the second, six in the fourth, two in the sixth, three in the seventh and one in the eighth. The Tigers scored three in the fourth and one in the seventh.
Dane Opel, Logan Pearson and Shane Segovia had one hit and one RBI apiece for Missouri, which got outhit 18-5.
Missouri will host Missouri State at 6 p.m. Wednesday.
