Your Opinion: Creative ways to affect gas prices

Dear Editor:

In my opinion, the high gas price in Jefferson City vs. the surrounding communities is perpetuated by the lack of competitive discount gas retailers.

Although I don't have evidence to substantiate it, I also believe the local Jefferson City distributors do everything in their power to discourage competition. Although I don't blame them for their prosperous tactics, I don't have to totally give in to them either.

For instance, if I'm going to the Lake of the Ozarks, I can buy enough gas to get to Eldon and fill up there. The same procedure can apply to a trip to Columbia or any surrounding community where the prices are lower. I can consolidate my errands to reduce the number of trips I make, and if one does volunteer work, why not take a month off and emphasize the reason is due to the high gas prices in Jefferson City.

Suffice it to say, other than an all-out boycott, we just need to be creative, and quite possibly we can influence lower prices at the pump.
