NWS confirms tornado in St. Louis

ST. LOUIS (AP) - The National Weather Service has confirmed that damage in the St. Louis Hills neighborhood was caused by a small tornado.

A strong storm caused damage throughout eastern Missouri and southern Illinois on Wednesday. KMOV-TV (http://bit.ly/12T8zgg ) reports that the tornado in the St. Louis Hills produced 85 mph winds and was on the ground for one-third of a mile.

At least 48 homes in the neighborhood reported damage. One home was condemned when the roof was blown off. No one was hurt.

A larger tornado was confirmed in the St. Louis County town of Hazelwood. That one had winds of 113 to 157 mph.
