Cougars sweep pair with Lyon

BATESVILLE, Ark. - Led by a no-hitter from Taylor Richter in the opener, the Columbia College Cougars swept a doubleheader with Lyon College on Saturday.

The Cougars romped to a 12-0 win in five innings in the opener, as Richter (Blair Oaks High School) allowed just one baserunner, that coming on a walk. She struck out five.

Whitni Howell (Jefferson City High School) went 3-for-4 with four RBI for the winners, while Kristin Eiken (Blair Oaks High School) went 2-for-4 with a home run and three RBI.

Also for Columbia, Marli Hayes (Jefferson City High School) had two singles, a double and one RBI.

In the second game, Columbia picked up a 7-2 victory.

Eiken had two hits and two RBI, Howell had two hits and Hayes drove in one run.

Tiffany Urwiler (School of the Osage High School) pitched the final two innings in relief, giving up two earned runs on four hits with one strikeout.

Columbia (9-12 overall, 4-0 American Midwest Conference) will host Hannibal-LaGrange in a doubleheader starting at 2 p.m. today.
