MU softball falls

TUSCALOOSA - The Missouri softball team saw its 12-game winning streak come to a close Friday night against Alabama.

That just means it's time for a new streak.

The Tigers scored four runs in the third inning and led 9-0 on its way to a 9-4 victory against fourth-ranked Alabama on Saturday afternoon.

No. 7 Missouri got four runs in the third, one in the fifth, one in the sixth and three in the ninth as it outhit Alabama 10-8.

Kayla Kingsley had three hits to lead the Tigers while Kelsea Roth had two RBI. Roth and Mackenzie Sykes both had home runs for the Tigers.

Chelsea Thomas picked up the victory. She allowed no runs on five hits and five walks in 6 1/3 innings. The Crimson Tide (34-6, 9-5 Southeastern Conference) scored four runs in the bottom of the seventh off relief pitcher Nicole Hudson. Thomas improved to 14-2 with the victory as she returned to the game to get the final out.

Leslie Jury took the loss for Alabama as she allowed all nine runs (six earned) in 6 2/3 innings.

It was a far cry from Friday's game when Alabama kept the Tigers (23-3, 8-2 SEC) at bay in a 4-1 victory.

The three-game series concludes at noon today.
