Police hold youth seat belt campaign

The Jefferson City Police Department participated in a statewide Youth Seat Belt Enforcement Campaign from March 15-31.

During the enforcement effort officers issued 367 tickets including 60 seat belt violation tickets, four child restraint violation tickets, 88 speeding tickets, four driving while intoxicated tickets and 211 additional tickets for various other traffic violations.

Authorities said 33 percent of teens do not buckle up despite evidence proving the benefits of wearing a seat belt.

Eight out of 10 Missouri teens killed in traffic crashes are unbuckled.
