Illinois tops Missouri

ST. LOUIS - The Missouri baseball team won't be doing much bragging after Tuesday's game, especially when it comes to defense.

Fueled by five Missouri errors, Illinois defeated Missouri 6-2 in the annual Braggin' Rights game at Busch Stadium.

The score was tied at 1 before Illinois broke through in the sixth. A two-run triple by David Kerian followed by a sacrifice fly put the Illini up 4-1.

Illinois (18-7) outhit Missouri 11-7 as no Tiger had more than one hit. The Illini added a run in the seventh and one in the ninth.

Missouri, which got an RBI single by Josh Lester in the third, picked up an unearned run in the ninth, but it was too little too late as the Illini broke a six-game losing streak against Missouri.

Jace James took the loss. He allowed four runs (three earned) on seven hits in five innings.

The Tigers (9-16, 2-7 Southeastern Conference) open a three-game series Friday at Georgia.
