Your Opinion: Aging utility infrastructure needs repair

Dear Editor:

The American Society of Civil Engineers just released a study that confirms we shouldn't wait for a crisis to deal with our power grid. The study gave our power grid infrastructure a D+. That is awfully close to failing.

This is a nationwide report and while not indicative of just Missouri it does point out the larger problem that our nation's infrastructure is aging.

This report reinforces the need for an electric utility surcharge now to improve Missouri's power grid while interest rates are low and unemployment is high.

Unfortunately the recent News Tribune article on infrastructure highlighted road and bridge deficiencies, among others, and buried failing electric energy production and delivery later in the article.
