Jefferson City's Sam Johnson (6-1, 6-1) and David Clausen (3-6, 7-5, 10-8 match tiebreaker) picked up singles victories.
David Steinmeyer (1-6, 2-6), Spencer Bone (2-6, 0-6), Isaac Roling (2-6, 0-6) and Dalton Doyle (0-6, 1-6) dropped singles matches.
Rockhurst, which finished second in the state last season, swept doubles action as the team of Johnson and Clausen fell 1-6, 3-6, Steinmeyer and Roling lost 4-6, 2-6 and Bone and Doyle lost 7-6, 2-6, 9-11 (match tiebreaker).
The Jays (1-1) are back in action at 4 p.m. Wednesday at Washington Park against defending state champion Rock Bridge.
