Your Opinion: Public schools applauded

Dear Editor:

I wish to express my personal thoughts about the Jefferson City Public School system.

Recently, I attended the grandparent's day event at Cedar Hills Elementary where my 8-year-old granddaughter is in second grade. It was a delightful experience. The interesting and inviting classroom made me wish I could be a second-grader.

I'm the proud parent of four grown children. All of them are graduates of Jefferson City High School. They are all wonderful, productive, contributing citizens of society, two of them in businesses of their own here in our own community. They are all America-loving patriots and created in the Lord, a fact for which I'm truly thankful. Three of my nine grandchildren are students in Jefferson City schools. The others were all home schooled and have done well.

Jefferson City Public Schools is an entity we can all be proud of and I personally feel as a community we need to express appreciation to teachers, administrators, food service workers, maintenance crews, all the employees of the system.

For sure it isn't perfect, no organization is, however compared to the Chicago public school system, JCPS is humming along like a well-oiled, fine-tuned engine.
