Missouri State Fair attendance up by 10,000

SEDALIA, Mo. (AP) - Attendance at the Missouri State Fair this year was up about 10,000 people over last year's attendance.

Officials said Friday that more than 353,000 people attended the 11-day fair in Sedalia. Gov. Jay Nixon says a break from a particularly hot summer helped boost attendance during the fair, which closed Aug. 19. About 343,000 people attended the fair in 2011.

The 2012 State Fair also had more than 28,000 livestock and competitive entries and more than 4,000 youth participants.

Next year's Missouri State Fair is scheduled to run from Aug. 8 to Aug. 18.
