Helias tops Fatima in volleyball

WESTPHALIA — A crucial stretch bridging the first and second games turned out to be the deciding factor in a volleyball match between the evenly matched Helias Lady Crusaders and Fatima Lady Comets on Thursday night.

Helias roared back at the end of the first game and jumped out to an early lead in the second before holding on for a 25-22, 25-19 victory in front of a raucous crowd.

“I’m not saying this a hostile environment, but it was good to win in a loud environment with a lot of students, a lot of fans, cheering for their team,” Helias coach David Harris said. “It’s good for us to come into this kind of situation and learn how to block out all that stuff and focus on what’s going on on the court. I thought we did a very good job with that.”

With Helias holding a 17-16 lead in the first game, the Lady Crusaders committed a hitting error. That was no problem. It was the rash of errors that followed that made things interesting.
