It was a game of costly blunders. Hickman miscues gave Jefferson City an early lead. Mistakes by the Lady Jays then gave the Kewpies a win.
Hickman rallied for two runs in the top of the seventh with a little help from the Jefferson City defense to pick up a 5-4 victory Tuesday at Lincoln Field, spoiling the Lady Jays’ Senior Night celebration.
“This is hard to swallow because we had the game in our hands,” Jefferson City coach Lisa Dey said. “We just let it fall through.”
Jefferson City led 4-3 heading into the seventh inning, just three outs from picking up a big win. The inning started harmlessly enough, as Lady Jay pitcher Katelyn Rush got a fly out to right.
Then the trouble started.
