Former Lincoln University President David Henson began the campaign to build it, but died in 2005 — two years before the “Soldiers Memorial” on the LU Quadrangle was finished and dedicated.
Last week, LU Vice President Benecia Williams told curators: “The Memorial Plaza is free and clear of debt.”
The campaign’s initial goal was $1 million, to pay for the monument and to start a scholarship fund.
