NEWARK, N.J. (AP) - Cappie Pondexter had 21 points and 12 rebounds, Plenette Pierson scored 17 points, and the New York Liberty rallied to beat the Sparks 73-71 Sunday.

Essence Carson scored 14 points, including 11 during a 21-3 run in the third quarter that gave the Liberty (12-17) the lead after trailing by 14 points.

Kristi Toliver scored 17 points, Candace Parker had 14 points and 15 rebounds, and rookie Nneka Ogwumike added 13 points for the Sparks (20-10).

Carson's 3-pointer tied the score at 70-all with 48 seconds remaining, and Pondexter made two free throws about 26 seconds later to put the Liberty ahead.

Ebony Hoffman made a free throw with 15 seconds left and Toliver missed a go-ahead 3 about 10 seconds later.

Pondexter sealed the win with a free throw with 2.2 seconds remaining.

SUN 82, SKY 77

UNCASVILLE, Conn. (AP) - Tina Charles scored 24 points to rally first-place Connecticut past Chicago.

Renee Montgomery had 12 points, Tan White added 11 and Kelsey Griffin 10 for the Sun (21-8), who trailed by 14 late in the second quarter. Charles shot 11 for 15 from the field to help Connecticut win for the sixth time in its last nine games.

Swin Cash had 21 points and 15 rebounds to lead the Sky (11-17), Courtney Vandersloot scored 15 points and Epiphanny Prince added 14. Chicago played without Olympic center Sylvia Fowles (calf strain).

Charles' jumper with 8:07 remaining tied the score at 60-all, and Montgomery and Danielle McCray hit 3-pointers 42 seconds apart to put the Sun up six 2 minutes later. Connecticut didn't trail again.

FEVER 89, MERCURY 83

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) - Katie Douglas scored a season-high 30 points to help the Indiana beat Phoenix.

Douglas shot 12 for 18 from the field and became just the 10th player in WNBA history to reach 5,000 career points. Tamika Catchings added 19 points and four steals for the Fever (19-9), who improved to 9-2 since the Olympic break.

The Fever made seven 3-pointers to give them a franchise-record 230 with six games remaining. The WNBA record is 283.

DeWanna Bonner scored 23 points to lead Phoenix (7-21). Charde Houston had 14 points and Lynetta Kizer added 11.

LYNX 81, SILVER STARS 62

SAN ANTONIO (AP) - Maya Moore had 18 points and 12 rebounds to lead Minnesota.

Rebekkah Brunson added 15 points and 12 rebounds for the defending champion and league-leading Lynx (24-4). Lindsay Whalen and Monica Wright each added 11 points and Devereaux Peters had 10.

Sophia Young scored 20 points for San Antonio (17-11), which lost its third straight at home and fifth in a row overall. No other Silver Stars player scored more than eight points.

San Antonio finished 36 percent (24 for 66) from the field, including 4 for 18 on 3-pointers.

DREAM 93, MYSTICS 68

ATLANTA (AP) - Lindsey Harding had 15 points and nine assists, Erika DeSouza had 12 points and 10 rebounds, and Atlanta cruised past Washington.

Armintie Price had 11 of her 15 points in the first half as the Dream (16-14) jumped to a 24-point first-half lead and finished shooting 59 percent. Cathrine Kraayeveld had 11 points and Tiffany Hayes added 10.

Crystal Langhorne and Noelle Quinn scored 12 points each for the league-worst Mystics (5-24), who lost their eighth straight. Monique Currie and Jasmine Thomas added 10 points each, and Ashley Robinson grabbed 13 rebounds.

Angel McCoughtry, who scored 30 points in a double-overtime loss at Minnesota on Friday, came in averaging a league-leading 21.1 points per game and finished with eight points against Washington.
