Another ‘whooping cough’ case confirmed

Another young student at Jefferson City’s Southwest Early Childhood Center has whooping cough, school and health officials confirmed Wednesday.

David Luther, the Jefferson City School District spokesman, said the newest confirmed case involved a student in the Early Childhood Special Education part of the building, but privacy laws prohibited his identifying the child or the child’s family.

However, he said, new letters were sent home to the school’s parents Wednesday, updating the situation and reminding them of the information the district already has posted on its website about the disease that officially is called “pertussis.” The update is listed in the news, video and photos box on the website.
