Former union official sentenced for bank fraud

A former president of the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees Local 1324 in Fulton was sentenced Tuesday after pleading guilty to bank fraud.

Michael Allen Palmer, 53, was charged with writing checks out of the AFSCME Local 1324’s Callaway Bank checking account for personal use multiple times between 2007 and 2009 during his term as president.

Palmer was sentenced Tuesday in federal court in Jefferson City to 120 days in federal prison. As part of a plea agreement, Palmer must also pay $1,931 in restitution.

AFSCME Local 1324 has a membership of employees who work at Fulton State Hospital.

According to the indictment, Palmer knowingly executed and attempted to execute a scheme to defraud and to obtain money, funds, credits and other property owned by Callaway Bank.
