For two years Charles Palmer met tourists at the Lewis and Clark memorial monument in Jefferson City and heard requests for a reference book to take with them on the trail journey through Missouri.

Palmer answered that wish with his new book, “Follow the Lewis and Clark Trail in Missouri,” to be released after his author signing Thursday.

Downtown Book & Toy, 125 E. High St., will host the book signing from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

“I started the first time in 2011 in Birds Point and went as far as St. Louis,” Palmer said, “but for some reason I quit and didn’t know if I really wanted to do it.”
