You’ll need to get an update to the Helias football record book.
One career and four single-season marks fell Thursday night as the Crusaders rolled to a 54-7 victory against the Kirksville Tigers in a Class 4 District 6 first-round contest at Adkins Stadium.
“Records are important to our program,” Helias coach Phil Pitts said. “These kids put in a lot of time in our program and when they have a chance to set a record, we try to do everything we can to see that they get the opportunity to do it.”
• With a stop early in the second quarter, senior linebacker Justus Schulte eclipsed the career tackle record. It was the 364th of his career to better the mark of 363 set by Glen Verslues (1986-88).
“That’s been a big deal to our whole team,” Pitts said. “He’s put in a lot of work over the past four years, he’s fallen in love with the sport and he deserves it.”
