Ashland gas main break triggers evacuations
Thursday, October 25, 2012
Students in Southern Boone County were among those evacuated to the community track Wednesday morning after a gas line was ruptured near downtown Ashland.
Contractors were doing construction work near the corner of Redbud and Main streets at 9:45 a.m. when the gas main was struck and damaged.
“As a precaution, nearby schools, as well as homes and businesses, were temporarily evacuated,” Ameren spokesman Brian Daniels said.
Customers in the vicinity lost service through the day as Ameren Missouri crews worked to fix the problem and reconnect gas service.
