St. Charles man charged with killing girlfriend

ST. CHARLES, Mo. (AP) - Charges against a St. Charles man have been upgraded to second-degree murder in the death of his girlfriend earlier this year.

The St. Louis Post-Dispatch (http://bit.ly/T5suYe) reports that 49-year-old Steven Jon Martineau has been jailed since May on misdemeanor assault charges. The charges were upgraded to second-degree murder on Friday.

Fifty-year-old Linda Cerutti was found unconscious on the kitchen floor of her home on May 26. She was hospitalized but never regained consciousness and died on June 10. Police say Cerutti and Martineau had argued earlier on May 26 and it escalated into a physical altercation.
