Public hearing on noise ordinance set for Monday
Friday, October 12, 2012
The Jefferson City Council will take action Monday on a proposed new noise ordinance, and a public hearing is set for the beginning of the meeting to allow for additional input from the community.
The proposed ordinance, which has been discussed in several committees and debated by council members at the last City Council meeting, would establish a measurable way of determining when a resident or business is in violation of the noise ordinance through decibel readings.
Public Works Director Roger Schwartze took a sound level meter and measured various city noises to help establish the limits in each zoning classification. The maximum permitted sound levels are greater for commercial and industrial zones than residential and are split between daytime and nighttime hours, when sound levels must be lower.
City attorney Drew Hilpert said the council will hear some examples of various noise levels at Monday’s meeting.

Nah. Do you remember Trigger Happy TV? The skit where (I think Ricky Gervais) is walking around with a cell phone about the size of his body and he stands around people screaming into it? For some reason that idea would be funny at a public hearing about noise. That's what I hear around the zombies with phones up to their ears 24/7 airing their laundry to the annoyed around them....loud noise.

Nope. Don't remember Trigger Happy TV but the thought of a bull horn at the noise ordinence meeting sent me into fits of laughter. Reminded me of the good old days. And Ricky with a cell phone the size of his body and screaming into it is priceless. More fits of laughter.

Showing up to the meeting with a bullhorn set at Roger's maximum decibel rating for noise would not be a bad idea. Let them hear how loud it is when you give your testamony.
