JC man arrested for cyber crimes in Boone Co.

A Jefferson City man was arrested Friday, suspected of Internet related crimes involving minors.

According to authorities, the Boone County Sheriff's Department Cyber Crimes Task Force, in conjunction with the Jefferson City Police Department arrested Nicholas Bax, 34, 1506 Martha Lane, and took him to the Boone County Jail in Columbia.

He is facing charges of attempted enticement of a child, the attempted sexual exploitation of a minor and the attempted sexual misconduct of a child.

The investigation leading to Bax's arrest began on September 14, when Bax started e-mailing a person he believed was a 14-year-old Boone County boy, but was actually an undercover detective with the task force.

After exchanging several e-mails, the conversations moved to cell phone text messaging which continued through October 6.

Bax enticed and encouraged the decoy into meeting for sex.

Bax attempted to actually meet the child after the child snuck out of his house late one night, but could not find the child.

Authorities also said Bax sent the decoy a sexually graphic photograph of himself.

In addition, Bax attempted to persuade the decoy to send sexually graphic photographs of himself.

On Friday, authorities served a search warrant at Bax's residence where several items were seized including Bax's cell phone and a computer.
