Lady Jays’ team of Hoogveld-Smith advances

SPRINGFIELD — The Jefferson City Lady Jays had one doubles team qualify for the Individual State Tennis Tournament, while another doubles team and one singles player fell short.

The Lady Jays’ No. 1 doubles team of Eden Hoogveld and Paige Smith won a winner-take-all sectional match Tuesday, winning 6-1, 6-1.

Springfield Central eliminated the Lady Jays’ No. 2 doubles team of Claire Murphy and Kelly Raithel, winning 6-4, 7-5.

In singles, Jefferson City’s Kirsten Schmidt was eliminated by a 6-1, 6-0 score.

Ashley Dowden of Helias dropped her sectional singles match 3-6, 6-4, 1-6.
