Occupants rescued from truck teetering on wall
Wednesday, October 3, 2012
Before rescuers arrived, a passing motorist helped to prevent a teetering pickup truck from dropping off a wall after it crashed in eastern Jefferson City on Tuesday afternoon.
Police and emergency personnel were dispatched around 3:10 p.m. to the scene of the wreck on Supercenter Drive near Walmart. They found the pickup had run off the street and was stuck on a concrete retaining wall with the driver -- Sandra Corn, 67 -- and a passenger -- Tiffiany Padgett, 22 -- still inside.
After noticing how close the truck was to dropping 20 feet to the parking lot below, a passing motorist stopped to assist by tying a tow strap from his vehicle to the truck and a nearby guardrail. Tow trucks arrived to further secure the teetering truck, and then the occupants, both of Jefferson City, were removed and transported to a local hospital for evaluation of minor injuries.
