Marcus Woodruff made the most of his time away.
The junior had to sit out the soccer season last year after transferring to Jefferson City High School. But Woodruff still had the desire to play and made sure he was ready when he got his opportunity.
"It was difficult, it made me want to work harder," Woodruff said. "But I dealt with it, trained by myself and knew I would get my chance this season."
Woodruff has made the most of that chance. On Monday, he scored a school single-season record 21st goal in just 14 games for the Jays in a 9-0 victory over the Springfield Parkview Vikings at the 179 Soccer Park.
