At the Public Works and Planning meeting Thursday, City Engineer Matt Morasch updated committee members on preliminary plans for the new interchange.

As part of the project, the city would like to complete a recommended roundabout at the intersection of Dunklin and Lafayette streets to better handle heavy traffic flow.

How about a Round Dee Hoo at Dix, Booneville, West Main Connector, or Maybe just a set of traffic lights? Rob

Rob - can't you handle the complexity of a 4-way stop??? LOL!!

Seriously though - I get a kick out of all the roundabout-haters that pop in here (Lifer where are ya???) - with all the incessant round and round that goes on between certain posters here it would seem you folks would be able to comprehend how to go around in a circle till you see the exit you want, and take it. So simple even a Democrat can do it!!

The most effective roundabout they could put in would start east of Jeff City, take Hwy 50 and “roundabout” it to the west of Jeff City and completely get rid of the useless so call expressway through town!

How about 63 continues on down 94, and crosses at about militia drive back to 50, then one that continues from Milita south, and over to 50 west making the outerbelt for our thriving metropolis? Rob

I'm not sure we need another merry-go-round in this city. What would help is to condem St. Mary's Hospital cite when they move. The feds and MODOT wanted to do this 60 years ago and build a decent interchange. Had it been done at that time, many lives and millions of property damaged could have been saved. Everyone wants JC to make a favorable impression on visitors. Crossing the bridge into that interchange is a bad start.

Years ago 54, 63, just dumped into McCarty by means of a T intersection. 54/63 made a left and continued to 5 points, at that point you could go 50 west via Mo blvd, or 50/54/63 east on McCarty to Madison, 54 turned south out of town at Madison intersection, 50/63 continued east. There was alot of problems with grade due to all the hills in JC, Industrial to Southwest was the new exist south for 54. That created all the problems for Dix, MoBlvd, SW more recently! Industrial would have crossed at old National Guard, over St Marys where the newer home are, across where the old Farm Bureau Bldg is, and Montgomry Wards was. The new 50 had a problem at grade on Miller Street around Simonsin. The reason the expressway which by the way came to a dead end at Clark, and continued back to McCarty to go on east. We should have had overpasses on the expressway, but Sam Cook had a new Motor bank? Ford was in location to give us our Dix road connector problems. District 5 had their spot, Delongs was in place, because Dix was nothing more than a blacktop path south of Delongs and we could not tear down St Marys? I wonder if the News Tribune had a location in mind? Roundabouts, are a cheap way for Politicians to avoid those high paid Electricians. How about some Traffic lights at Dix and West Main? Jefferson City has been manipulated since Boone drove that first survey stake! Rob

Rob - traffic lights at Dix and West Main would be useful for onlly about 2 hours a day when traffic is heaver. The rest of the day you are usually only one of maybe two or three cars at the stop. What causes problems during the busier times is the folks who can't understand the idea of the lawful rotation of cars going through the intersection, and then sit there in a 'mexican-standoff' mode with three other cars while everyone looks at eachother totally dumbfounded as to whether its their turn to go or not.
