Winning Powerball ticket sold in KC
Thursday, November 29, 2012
The winning Missouri Powerball ticket was sold in the Lottery’s Kansas City region.
The ticket was sold at Trex Mart, 17605 Highway Z, in Dearborn. Trex Mart will also receive a bonus check for $50,000 for selling the winning ticket.
“It is so exciting to sell one of these Powerball tickets,” said May Scheve Reardon, executive director of the Missouri Lottery. “In addition, we sold two tickets that matched all five white balls, which means they each win $1 million. Three millionaires in one night is a wonderful night!”
The $1 million winning tickets were sold at: Casey’s General Store, 4800 S. Rangeline in Joplin; and Sunfresh, 2415 N.E. Vivion Road in Kansas City.
Reardon noted that Missouri has had the second most Powerball jackpot winners, behind Indiana.
“With last night’s jackpot winner, we are up to 27,” said Reardon.
The winning numbers from last night’s Powerball drawing are: 5, 16, 22, 23, 29, and the Powerball was 6.
The Missouri winner has 180 days to claim this prize, which would be May 27, 2013. The winner can select to get the jackpot prize in 30 payments over 29 years (annuity) or in one lump-sum payment. If no choice is made in 60 days, the jackpot is automatically paid in 30 payments.
At about $289.55 million, the split jackpot looks to be the largest ever in the Show-Me State, eclipsing the $258.5 million won by Marshall resident Christopher Shaw on the April 21, 2010 drawing.
The cash payout on Missouri’s half of the jackpot would be about $189.8 million before taxes. The lottery withholds 25% federal tax and 4% state tax in Missouri, according to the state’s official lottery website. That would make the lump-sum cash payout about $134,829,000.
Wednesday’s total jackpot of nearly $580 million was the second largest in U.S. lottery history. The Mega Millions drawing on March 20, 2012 split a jackpot of $656 million between three winners in Kansas, Maryland and Illinois.
