Internet outage affects CenturyLink customers

UPDATE posted at 12:55 a.m. Thursday:

Service is returning for at least some affected CenturyLink customers.

Reported Wednesday night:

CenturyLink customers in the Jefferson City area and parts of at least six states were without Internet and voicemail service Wednesday night after a widespread outage.

According to company spokesman Greg Gaffke, reports of problems started coming in around 7:30 p.m. The outage, Gaffke said, affected primarily former Embarq customers in the affected states.

Prism video/television service and phone service was not affected by the outage, according to Gaffke, although some customer were reporting problems with their TV service.

Officials at the Jefferson City 911 Center said Internet there was affected by the outage, as were the mobile data terminals in law enforcement vehicles.

As of late Wednesday night, no cause for the outage had been determined.

Gaffke said they hoped to have the problem taken care of early this morning.
