Nixon plans health care announcement

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (AP) — Missouri Gov. Jay Nixon plans to announce his support for a major health care initiative.

An email obtained by The Associated Press shows Nixon is planning news conferences Thursday at Truman Medical Center in Kansas City, Barnes Jewish Center in St. Louis and Jordan Valley Community Health Center in Springfield.

He will be joined at some of the stops by officials from the Missouri Hospital Association and the Missouri Primary Care Association. Both groups are part of a new coalition urging Missouri to expand Medicaid eligibility as called for by President Barack Obama’s health care law.

Nixon campaigned on expanding Medicaid when he ran for governor in 2008, but he was noncommittal prior to this year’s election on whether Missouri should embrace the Medicaid expansion under the new federal law.

I guess we will find out whats in it. Say goodby to the greatest health care in the world. Oh well I guess it's not fair for us to have better care than a 3rd world country.

Here's a reality check for you. All you need to do is look at the stats. Our health care outcomes compare poorly with other industrialized nations, and are barely ahead of third world countries. That is the direct result of our current insurance-company-profit-minded health care system. I personally object to having my health care decisions made for me by insurance company clerks in boiler room phone bank operations. The government at least doesn't have to think about corporate profitability before everything else.

You're right. The USPS is a shining example of government at it's best. I can't wait.

The best highways, the best military, the best government structure, the best damn near anything else a government does, and you're griping about the USPS. Good job Polly. Want a cracker? take your pick.

If our government and its programs are so wonderful, why is the Savior in Chief working so hard to destroy it?

Tonto is correct, our healthcare system, run by insurors walled off from competitition in each state, is the most expensive in the world, by a very large margin, with a very 2nd and 3rd world care outcome. You're parroting FOX and insurors' lies from the campaign and the STOP NATIONAL HEALTHCARE horse poop. We need it, and we need it soon. I also hope Nixon announces that he supports a provider exchange in time to meet the federal deadline, otherwise all the government haters will have to deal with a federal, rather than Missouri, exchange. No irony there, nosiree . . .

Spelck: you are absolutely right!! Having some nincompoop appointed by ODUMMA is real consoling to me!
Everything the GOV touches falls on it's face!! They will make the decisions as to who will live or die. As nasty Nancy said!! We have to pass it to see what is in it.

"They will make the decisions as to who will live or die" Your insurance company already makes those decisions, based on profitability. If you cost them too much, you don't get procedures covered. Period.

It will be so nice when our healthcare quality models that of the licence bureau, where long lines to talk to a rude unempowered clerk controls the entire experience and you are forced to take the standardized treatment that everyone else has to take.
