New passions, new challenges

Laura Morris — a local theater enthusiast who has thrown herself into dozens of charitable causes over the years — is trying to do a better job of balancing her many interests.
“I’m a little ADHD,” she joked.
Over the years, Morris has been an involved supporter of local children’s theater camps, the Second Chance Foundation, the Council for Drug Free Youth, the Zonta Club, the Cultural Arts Commission, all three local theater troupes, both the Jefferson City and Columbia chambers of commerce and the Women’s Network.
All that on top of her career in the hotel industry, and, more recently, as a strategist and motivational speaker for Ascend Business Strategies, a Jefferson City-based professional development and training firm. The company offers seminars on customer service, leadership and strategic thinking; their main clients tend to be other corporations, trade associations and government entities.
