Suspects surrender after photos posted to Facebook

Two of three people suspected of breaking into a home turned themselves in to authorities on Thursday after the Maries County Sheriff's Department posted photographs of them on the Internet. A third person is expected to surrender today.

"They stated they received calls about their pictures being on Facebook, and decided to turn themselves in," Sheriff Chris Heitman stated.

The sheriff's department released three photos late Wednesday night and asked for the public's help to identify the suspects who appeared in them. The suspects apparently brought minor children along with them during the burglary, but the sheriff cropped the images of the children out of the pictures released to the public.

The names of the suspects were not immediately made public pending the filing of formal charges.

"It's often hard to apprehend someone who burglarizes houses; that's why several homeowners and the sheriff's office have begun using this type of technology," Heitman observed. "Hopefully, thieves will learn not to steal from Maries County."
