Nixon names new Lincoln U. curator

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (AP) - Missouri Gov. Jay Nixon has named a former community college president to the governing board of Lincoln University in Jefferson City.

Nixon on Tuesday appointed John McGuire, of Glasgow, to the public university's Board of Curators for a term that ends Jan. 1, 2017.

McGuire, a Democrat, was president of St. Charles Community College from 1996 to 2011. He also led Owensboro Community College in Kentucky from 1991 to 1996. In all, McGuire has been involved with community colleges for 40 years in five states.

The appointment requires state Senate confirmation when lawmakers return to the Capitol.
