Your Opinion: Industrious children impress shopper
Tuesday, November 20, 2012
Thursday morning while shopping at a dollar store, I noticed a young lady with three small children.
I would guess their ages to be 3, 5 and 7.
At check out, I happened to be in line behind this family. I heard the mother tell the oldest child to add up enough money, in his head, to pay the cashier the amount on the screen.
I walked up to the young woman and said, “I am impressed.” She replied that the money was earned by picking up walnuts. I was even more impressed.
This observation reminded me of a culture associated with the days of the simple one-room school house. It is a blessing to know there are still children who are learning the value of and rewards directly associated with work.
I give thanks for that young family.
