Council approves RFP for conference center

After making changes to the document, the Jefferson City Council has approved a draft request for proposals on a conference center.

The vote was 9-0 with Third Ward Councilman Bryan Pope unable to attend Monday night’s meeting.

This culminated a process begun in late May.

The RFP outlines a partnership between the city and hotelier, or developer, to construct an exhibit or banquet hall.

The city would provide funding for the construction, set at $9 million from the lodging tax contributions.

Among the changes made Monday night was one in the area outlining the city’s contribution to the project.

No matter what the the voters said. City of Jefferson will get what they want. WE DO NOT NEED A CONFERENCE CENTER. Need to spend that money on the roads. or other things that need to be fixed.

We sure do not need this puny little conference center that they are wanting to build for the Chamber of Commerce meetings and socials.

If we are going to build something, let's build something BIG that can hold thousands of local residents for concerts, Town meetings, huge equipment and automotive shows, large sports meets, and nice big conventions.

This little thing is just mainly going to be used by the Chamber members and the average taxpayer will never get to set foot into it, let alone benefit from it.

We need a huge multipurpose COMMUNITY CENTER instead of this little waste of money.
