April vote possible on new school

After an extensive conversation about the benefits of academy learning, Jefferson City school leaders on Monday indicated they may be getting closer to asking voters to consider a major bond issue in April.

In recent months, school board members and administrators have been working to negotiate the sale of the current high school building, 609 Union St., to two nearby colleges. In recent weeks, board members have met in closed session twice, although they have not yet reported any action.

“We’re still working with Lincoln University and Linn State Technical College and hope to have something to share sometime soon,” Superintendent Brian Mitchell reported.

At least they're pretending to care what the public (who pays for the school) think about the change over to academy style change...

How much will this election cost us taxpayers to once again send the message that we do not want what they are serving?

So many questions.... How much is the old high school going to be sold for? Do the two prospective institutions have that kind of funds? What if it doesn't sell? How much is the new academy going to cost? Does JCHS keep the newly renovated stadium? What would be the cost of renovating the old school and building a smaller new school? Please don't ask the taxpayers for another blank check without presenting all the options and their associated costs. Recent proposals have failed for this very reason. This being said after the district has already poured $3.1M into a land purchase.

Linn State and Lincoln have no money. So the question is, are the taxpayers willing to bail out the foolish venture of the JC school board. Hope fully not.
