Small businesses offering ‘Black Friday’ alternative

On the Saturday after Thanksgiving, small businesses in Jefferson City are rolling out the red carpet for potential shoppers, by providing a stress-free day of retail therapy in an atmosphere contrary to that of the typical “Black Friday.”

“Small businesses can’t compete with the big chain Black Friday events so we’ve joined forces and will give our community another option, and we think they will love it,” said Sam Bushman, owner of Samuel’s Tuxedos. “Our local small-business owners offer great service. We want you in our stores, and we’re glad to have you as a customer. We even gift wrap.”

On Nov. 24, shoppers can park their cars, jump on a free trolley and be transported to special sales, giveaways, grand prize drawings and other contests.

I watched the video and they checked two mattress stores and both sold used mattresses and said they were new. Talk about a yuck factor. If I buy a mattress no matter which stores I go to just to be on the safe side I will do an intense check.
