The American Red Cross Heart of Missouri deployed its executive director to the East Coast on Monday to assist with Hurricane Sandy relief efforts.

Dave Griffith is stationed in White Plains, N.Y., working with Community Partnership Services.

"We're working with universities, local governments and unions to try to engage them to provide us with volunteers or resources," Griffith said Tuesday in a phone interview while visiting storm-ravaged Manhattan. On the way to Manhattan earlier that morning, Griffith said many of the roads remained completely covered in water.

Although Griffith just now traveled to the East Coast, Ameren crews are beginning to make their way back to Missouri.
