Community gift: Wounded Marine, family move into new home

Matthew Huffman, 3, will have fun times ahead playing on a donated playset in the backyard of the Grey Creek Valley subdivision home built by the Jefferson City community for his father and wounded Marine Tyler Huffman.

The flat backyard is surrounded by stone-embossed sidewalks. And a wide, covered patio will create plenty of space for Huffman and his son to play outside.

Or inside, Matthew’s bedroom, closet and bathroom were designed with his father’s mobility in mind — as was the entire wheelchair-accessible floor plan.

Even if Huffman isn’t in the same place as his son, he will be able to watch him on the multiple security cameras set up around the “smart” home.
