City election filing period opens Tuesday

The filing period for Jefferson City municipal elections begins Tuesday, and many incumbents have stated their plans to seek re-election.

Filing will open at 8 a.m. Tuesday, with five seats open on the City Council, as well as municipal judge and city prosecutor.

Incumbents in the 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th wards say they plan to refile for their seats on the council, while 1st Ward Councilman Bob Weber said he is term limited and will not refile.

Candidates interested in running for city office must have three endorsements from residents who reside in the area the candidate wishes to represent. If more than two candidates file for the same seat, a primary will be held March 5. The general election will be held April 2.
