Republican Dawnel Davidson, a former Cole County deputy circuit clerk who worked in the office of state courts administrator for the last seven years, captured the circuit clerk's job in a special election Tuesday.
She beat acting Circuit Clerk Marilue Hemmel, a Democrat, with 19,632 votes, or 55.53 percent of the votes cast. Hemmel received 15,683 votes, or 44.36 percent.
