Annexation fails to get two-thirds majority
Wednesday, November 7, 2012
Jefferson City failed to get the needed vote Tuesday to annex a new area into the city’s 4th Ward.
The Meadows by the Club annexation proposal received 64.96 percent in favor, falling just short of the needed 67 percent to pass. Within the annexation area, 12 voted in favor and nine voted against.
Because the issue failed to pass by a simple majority in both the city and the annexation area in August, a second vote was taken Tuesday. In order to pass, the two areas combined needed to have a two-thirds majority.

Don't forget the turtle farm! We don't need to import our turtles from China.

Turtles really shouldn't be in the pet trade. Or reptiles in general. They require a heap of specialist knowledge. Of course, any pet or livestock does, but herps are a case all their own. I've raised several native juvenile aquatic turtles to sexual maturity and released them back to where they were caught once they were no longer "Heron bait" or "Catfish food". UV lighting, specialty feed, intestinal parasites, loads of fun.
Anyway, last I checked, turtles aren't on a lot of household or restaurant menus here in the states, and introduced species tend to end badly for us. And if you're going to take a Herp as a pet? Do your homework, so the critter has a quality life.

Perhaps the school board and superintendent will realize they need to work with those who oppose one mega school to reach a solution the citizens will support. Those civic leaders with tunnel vision and who expect the citizens to march in "goose step" to their wishes need to see that the citizens have said no to three of their wishes -- transformation, fire tax, and annexation. Howev er, I'm sure they will huddle in secret and make more plans on how to spend the citizens' money on pet projects.

Gotta figure out how to get around the taxpayers or hide it so they cannot find out until after it is a done deal.
