Cleaver defeats Turk

U.S. Rep. Emanuel Cleaver has turned back another challenge from perennial opponent Jacob Turk to win another two-year congressional term in Missouri's 5th District.

Unofficial results Tuesday night show that Cleaver defeated the Republican for the fourth straight time in a general election. Libertarian Randall "Randy" Langkraehr of Warrensburg finished third.

The former Kansas City mayor has spent four terms in the U.S. House. He is chairman of the Congressional Black Caucus and spoke at this year's Democratic National Convention.

Turk is a Lee's Summit resident who lost to the Democrat by a nine-point margin in 2010 after more decisive Cleaver victories in their two previous contests.
