Hartzler, Hensley on the ground in 4th District

COLUMBIA, Mo. (AP) - The two candidates vying to represent Missouri's 4th congressional district are working furiously to boost voter turnout in a battleground that stretches from the Kansas border to parts of Audrain County.

Republican Rep. Vicky Hartzler seeks a second term in Washington after her 2010 upset of long-time Democratic Congressman Ike Skelton. A campaign spokesman said Monday that Hartzler is focusing on grassroots efforts as Election Day approaches.

Hartzler faces Democrat Teresa Hensley, the Cass County prosecutor. Hensley met with about 100 volunteers Monday morning at a Kansas City union hall.

The Fourth District includes substantial new turf added after Missouri lost one of its nine seats in the U.S. House after population declines. The new terrain includes Boone, Cooper, Howard and Randolph counties and parts of Audrain and Cass counties.
