Final vote on annexation Tuesday

Referendum needs two-thirds majority from combined areas to pass

The second and final vote on the proposed Meadows by the Club annexation is Tuesday, which will decide whether the area joins Jefferson City’s 4th ward.

The Meadows by the Club annexation proposal includes an area of 158.2 acres in the Apache Flats area, including 27 housing units and two hotels. Included in the area are the Hampton Inn, Comfort Suites, J.C. Mattress Factory, a quarry, a turtle farm and the Meadows by the Club subdivision.

The issue failed to pass with a simple majority in both the city limits and the proposed annexed area in August.

We need to vote this down. It is pure greed by the City's leaders that drives this issue. Send a strong message to City Hall by voting NO.

The last time the city annexed, it did so through dirty tricks. Then there were brown outs in the annex, and services were stretched beyond their means.

Yeah, let us repeat that mistake.

This is going to go down in flames again.

What a waste of time and money trying to steal other folks' hard earned revenue.

How about the JCMO leaders think about cleaning up the town they already have?

No. The money grab is too obvious and all the wrong reasons to force someone into the city. Where was the desire to annex years before the lodging tax passed for the desired convention center?

Actually they have been talking about this for a long time...way before the convention center.

I'm sure they've talked about many things like annexing Westview Heights (joke). Putting it up to a vote after getting the tax increase to pay for a convention center is thug politics. The affected hotels revenues were never an issue until the convention center came along. I'd love to see hotels get built in Holts Summit just to thumb their nose at JC.

Why don't they put the convention center in the mall? The city is trying to push growth on the west side of town. The mall has plenty of parking and ample space inside.

Great Idea, they have highway access, Hotels all around, and there will be some more property added to the city on wensday Morning! Great idea. Rob

It was actually a co-workers idea. We discussed the JC-Penny wing of the Mall. There is absolutely nothing in that wing. The empty spots would be excellent for the smaller size convention center that the city is wanting to build. It would also impact the mall by bringing people into the shops and would give the visitors of the conventions something to do while they were away from the meetings.

Those hotels built where they did specifically to avoid JC taxes. This annexation appears to be a straight money grab by the city. Vote it down.
