Solid job growth in last reading before election
Saturday, November 3, 2012
WASHINGTON (AP) — The United States added a solid 171,000 jobs in October, and more than a half-million Americans joined the work force, the latest signs that the uneven economic recovery is gaining strength once again.
In addition, more jobs were added in August and September than believed. But the unemployment rate inched up to 7.9 percent because not all those joining the work force found work, the government said Friday.
The report was the final snapshot of the economy before the presidential election.
“The economy is in a lot better shape than most people believe,” said Joel Naroff, president of Naroff Economic Advisors. “That sets us up for stronger growth next year no matter who is elected on Tuesday.”
A government survey of households found 578,000 Americans joined the work force in October, the Labor Department said. Of those, 470,000 found work. The difference is why the unemployment rate rose from 7.8 percent in September.
Home prices are finally rising, and retailers and car companies this week reported stronger sales. Consumer confidence in October reached its highest point in almost five years, and stocks are within reach of record highs.
Big businesses are still cautious, partly because of slowing global demand for their goods. But the report found they continued to add jobs in greater numbers than they did last spring.
A second government survey, of large companies and government agencies, yielded the 171,000 number. Companies added 184,000 jobs, the most since February, and federal, state and local governments cut 13,000.
The report was compiled before Superstorm Sandy struck the East Coast earlier this week and devastated many businesses. Some economists think the rebuilding in the Northeast will add to construction jobs in the months ahead.
The government also revised its data to show that 84,000 more jobs were added in August and September than previously estimated. August’s job gain was revised to 192,000 from 142,000, and September’s to 148,000 from 114,000.
For the third time since the recovery from the Great Recession began in June 2009, the economy appears to be picking up momentum.
Since July, the economy has created an average of 173,000 jobs a month. That is up from an average of 67,000 a month from April through June.
The pickup in hiring suggests that businesses aren’t as worried as many analysts thought about the package of tax increases and spending cuts known as the “fiscal cliff” that will take effect unless Congress acts by Jan. 1.
Companies have cut back spending on computers, industrial machinery and other heavy equipment in recent months. That was seen by many economists as a sign of concern about the cliff and Europe’s economic deterioration.
But better consumer demand may be encouraging employers to hire more employees anyway. James Marple, an economist at TD Bank, said hiring could take off next year if the fiscal cliff is avoided.
“The fact that businesses are continuing to expand even with huge fiscal uncertainty means that once this cloud lifts, the pace of job creation has lots of room to accelerate,” he said.
One big question is whether consumers will be able to keep spending enough to propel growth. Average hourly wages rose only 1.1 percent in the past 12 months, the slowest annual pace on records dating back to 1965.
But the economy has added 1.6 million jobs in 10 months this year. All those new paychecks mean more demand for goods and services, which should lead to more hiring. The country could enter what economists call a virtuous cycle, an escalating loop of hiring, more spending and still more hiring.
Politically, the report was more neutral. It allowed both President Barack Obama and his Republican opponent, Mitt Romney, political ammunition in the fading days of the campaign.
It allowed Obama to argue that the economy has added jobs for 25 consecutive months, since September 2010, and the private sector has added jobs for 32 consecutive months, since February 2010.
Campaigning in Hilliard, Ohio, the president said: “We’ve made real progress, but we are here today because we know we’ve got more work to do. Our fight goes on.”
The report allowed the Romney campaign, however, to argue that the unemployment rate will be higher on Election Day than it was on Inauguration Day in January 2009, when it was 7.8 percent.
“I won’t waste any time complaining about my predecessor,” Romney said at a rally in West Allis, Wis. “From Day One, I will go to work to help Americans get back to work.”
Obama will face voters with the highest unemployment rate of any incumbent since Franklin Roosevelt. It was 7.8 when Gerald Ford lost to Jimmy Carter in 1976, and 7.2 percent when Ronald Reagan trounced Walter Mondale in 1984.
The story of what happened to the economy during Obama’s term is, of course, more complicated.
The month Obama took office, the economy lost 818,000 jobs, the worst figure of the Great Recession. During the next 13 months he was in office, the economy lost 4.3 million jobs.
Jobs reports were mixed, with some gains and some losses, for the next seven months. Since the beginning of October 2010, the economy has added 3.9 million jobs. The total for Obama’s time in office is growth of 194,000 jobs.
In addition, the Labor Department said in September that 368,000 jobs were created in the year ending in March but have not been assigned to the month-by-month statistics. Adding those jobs, Obama’s total is 562,000.
The economy lost 13,000 jobs during George W. Bush’s first term and added 1.1 million jobs during his second term. The economy added 11.5 million jobs during Bill Clinton’s first term and 11.2 million during his second.
As Obama and Romney face voters, the economy “is showing incredible resilience in the face of significant challenges,” said Marple, the TD Bank economist.
Tom Porcelli, an economist at RBC Capital Markets, was less enthusiastic. “The economy is not falling off a cliff, but it’s not raging ahead with vigor, either,” he said.
Investors also had a measured response. The yield on the 10-year U.S. Treasury note jumped to 1.78 percent from 1.72 percent, indicating investors were moving money out of bonds and into stocks, then dropped to 1.71 percent.
The Dow Jones industrial average climbed as much as 56 points but closed down 139 points, at 13,093.
The unemployment rate has fallen a full percentage point in the past year. But some of that was because people gave up looking for work, and therefore were no longer counted as unemployed.
That pushed the percentage of Americans working or looking for work to 63.5 percent in August, a 31-year low.
But since then, more Americans have started or resumed their job hunts, and most have found work. The percentage of Americans working or looking for work rose for a second straight month in October to 63.8 percent.
The number of people with part-time jobs who wanted full-time work dropped last month. And the number of people who have stopped looking for work also declined. The so-called underemployment rate, which consists of those two groups plus the unemployed, dipped to 14.6 percent from 14.7 percent.
The government’s breakdown of October job growth showed the housing market is finally generating jobs. Construction companies added 17,000, the most since January. Manufacturers added 13,000 after shedding 27,000 the previous two months.
Professional services such as architects and computer systems providers also added jobs. So did retailers, hotels and restaurants, and health care.
Vocus Inc., a Beltsville, Md., company that makes marketing software, has ramped up hiring this year to keep up with rapid growth in demand. It has nearly doubled its staff to about 750 and plans to add at least 200 next year.
The company is benefiting as more businesses switch from newspaper ads and the Yellow Pages to social media and online search engines. Vocus expects revenue to jump more than 50 percent this year compared with 2011.
Companies “are still willing to make investments in marketing software,” Rick Rudman, the chief executive, said. “We’re helping people grow their businesses.”

This just out from the Center for Immigration Studies.
Since Obama took office 67% of employment growth has gone to immigrants both legal and illegal.
There were 1.94 million more immigrants working in the last quarter of 2012 than in the first quarter of 2009 when Obama took office.
The list goes on. Shows us just who and where Obama's job growth interests are truly aimed at.

Why should business pay more for these jobs? The Democrats allow a never ending flow of cheap labor to continue to come in so any offer wage the business owners offer will be taken.
connor 7 months, 2 weeks ago
The Dems are anti-business when it suits them. The whole operation is hypocritical and conflicting really. I can understand why you would be confused though liberals can rarely see all angles of the destruction they bring.
RobHunterJohnson 7 months, 2 weeks ago
The Republican business owner is generally the one who exploits the low wage and the illegal workers! You do get what you pay for, just ask Angie! Rob
connor 7 months, 2 weeks ago
Ya you keep telling yourself that Rob. In fact want to talk about exploited low wage workers and big (well slightly big) business? Walk out to the East side of town and take a look at the liberal cheerleader, education soaking, Obama supporting New York business and how they treat their employees. From what I hear it is even worse today than it was when I had a loved one working out there.
connor 7 months, 2 weeks ago
Rob mentioned it's name. I just called a friend who works there and my suspensions were correct it has gotten worse than what was described to me a few years ago. Also apparently the place is all about hiring nothing but temps apparently to avoid the Obama-care stuff that they helped push as a company.

Oh I saw the establishment here in Jefferson City, working over there off of Dix rd. Rigging those beams for the wheel a brator 5' tall and over 40' swinging, rocking, at $3.25 an hour it don't take long to figure it out. He does take care of people if they get? This little town of Jefferson City, all the big players including our paper lady Mrs Weldon, had a vision of a nice little town, if you keep the wage down, the big guys that pay well, will go on down the road. the old NT came out with an editorial where will they get the help? When they added on to Schoolastics, I assume that is who you are talking about! I always thought they paid a fair wage to those ladies, and guys. They had a good program for child care, some health. Conner you want to know why we got traffic lights instead of overpasses on expressway? all us old timers know the answer to that one! You keep talking these points Conner, because working folk read these, and I hope we can win another vote or two for Claire and Obama! Remember AKIN and ROMNEY do not care about Social Security, Medicare, Health Care, Jobs, Education, nor Biology (I will take that back about Mitt, because he through Todd under the bus!) because Romney and Akin do not need money! Rob
connor 7 months, 2 weeks ago
Not really but as I said earlier keep telling yourself that. I don't think anyone voting for Romney or Akin has ever thought big business or anything over small business gives a damn about their employees.
That is something you Liberals just have never figured out. The average Joe Conservative today has figured out that the Femocrat/Liberal cure is just as bad as the disease. Worse in most ways because you kill the host rather than just making it sickly and anemic like big business would.
In the case of big business and low wages you guys want to treat the symptoms and allow the cause to go unchecked and keep doing it's damage. Your treatment can't even ease all the symptoms either but you figure it is better to let the chest feel good while the right arm withers up and dies.
connor 7 months, 2 weeks ago
I didn't say women I said Femocrats, which of course includes men.
connor 7 months, 2 weeks ago
I don't think so but since I agree with Rush pretty solidly on his Feminazi points I am sure the Femocrats will accuse me of it same as they do Rush. As a matter of fact I think Rush is a bit soft and subdued on them really.
connor 7 months, 2 weeks ago
Oh and yes Fem does equal feminine I guess, but in the case of Femocrat I use it to point out the largest single voting block within the Democrat party and for the gender class the party is most bent to benefit. You see basically three types of men in the Femocrat party.
Wealthy White Men who know they are insulated. White Knight Men who think pandering to women will get them some Minority Men because the Femocrats pay em and promises em stuff.
connor 7 months, 2 weeks ago
OH ya again. I forgot there is a fourth type although it is really a transition or metamorphosis of the panderer. The Married Beta males who usually have government jobs and their Feminazi wives completely dominate them. The wives get together every week for a girls night out and complain about their Kitchen slave wimp husbands.
You see them around Jefferson City more than other places because it is the Capitol and all with all the state agencies.

You know when there is a business man, farmer, or a billionaire corporation owner. The talk always goes to the goverment taxing us, regulating us, ect. The arguement here is taxes, whether we are talking about a Farmer (my wife parents grew cotton) or a small business, the conversation goes back to taxes, Personal property taxes, realestate taxes, payrole taxes, social security taxes, regulatory taxes, taxes for this, taxes for that, and so on! If they can't make a living, there is no reason to be in business? Liberals or conservatives, it makes no difference, no one likes paying taxes, but it is a necessary evil. It pays for us to be able to drive across the might Mo, or to redistrict our congressional districts to name a couple. The Goverment expense is large we know that from our trillions of dollars we owe? Some of those expenses are needed, some are not, some are important to me. some to you,. but all the same they are important to us all. Mr Akin voted for a bridge to nowhere, I am not concerned about a brige in Alaska, but I was interested in the bridge at Tuscumbia, or earlier at Jefferson City. Alaskans don't care abou JC! I don't drive to Wardsville very often, but Morgan County on C highway all the time. Taxes that fund this goverment including wages, jobs pay wages which pay all the other taxes that the US collects in ways we cannot even imagine. Alot of the jobs that have been moved overseas have been done so by REPUBLICANS, back to our small town, Republicans have held us back with this small town as well, going back way before us. Poor Decisions, big money, personal needs, or greed! We still have to pay for what we owe, some cuts, and some new taxes, and we can accomplish this in a biapartisanship way, or can we? I have a cousin who says I just want the goverment to leave me alone! Ever heard that before? We are not traveling on dirt paths, living in a cabins, self sufficient, we are a group of people living together in a country with health needs, economic needs, and defence needs! All these thing must be paid for, if we send our work overseas, if we allow the rich to hide their money in foreign banks, if we allow the rich to reduce taxes to an insanely low level, it will only help the rich. Rob

I agree HS, the immigrant will work for less, it is laced through our history as a country. As each wave of immigration passed through, Irish, German, Chinese, Japanese, Mexican, ect to present day. They all were willing to do the hard work others would not! Just watch the History Channel, Prevailing Wage was not a Democrat item, it was a Republican item, brought on by cheap labor brought up from the south, to the East Coast. (Immigration within) The Republican contractors complained of competing contractors using a substandard labor force, thus bring into play legislation like Davis Bacon and other. Its not OBAMA, it is the Republican employers. How many employers do you think vote Democratic? Just look at the donor list for th Pacs or the HUNGARIAN on our TVs.You need to remove those rose colorerd glasses, I hope you work for a good employer, you must because you think things are fine, It took me until I got into the Union to not fear the Lay Off after 3 days off, or how they worked prevailing wage, I was working at our state capital, wage and labor comes up, and hands me a check for wages the contractor had not been paying correct. The State had found this in an audit! That forman asked me to give that check back in the form of work a week for free? Myself and the 2 other guys did not! 10 guys at Algoa did? Thats fear for you job, he still needed me, but I was the first to go! He called me back alot, but still always the first to go. I cost $11 an hour, the other guy did it for $7.? Always remeber unless you own the Business, you can be replaced. Don't EVER take anything for granted, and you will do fine. That is why SS, MC are so important, and Akin/ Romney are so irrelevant, because they don't belong in conversation like this! They don't deserve a vote from a working man current or retired! Rob

How is it job growth when the Unemployment is about the same as job growth? I see only a stand still in the economy...where are you finding your reportings? and Connor, Obama is for the redistribution of wealth to other countries, thats why his polling numbers is through the roof....in Russia lol and also hes allowed funds to be transfered to his online website without actually checking where the money comes from, someone made a fake name of OSAMA BIN LADEN and donated money to it and it accepted it.....If you try to do the same with Romney's website, it wont allow it.
connor 7 months, 2 weeks ago
You're right Ispy. You will notice that Obama's polling numbers in places like Israel who truly need for America to have a strong President are 3 to 1 in favor of Romney. China, Russia, Iran and such. Well they want Obama in office means more of a playground for them.

I see increasing prices, layoffs and cutbacks, no hope for the future. If this is a better economy, we need ti gi back to Bush's economy before Frank and Pelosi started meddling.
CommanderBarkfeather 7 months, 2 weeks ago
Might I suggest that since immigrants (legal or otherwise) come to this country for the expressed purpose of finding employment, it may not be surprising that they make up for 67% of employment growth. They are simply willing to accept jobs that many Americans will not. Also, while the President may be willing to accept some redistribution of the wealth (which I am entirely for), I've yet to hear anyone claim that he intends to send this wealth overseas. Could you provide a source please? Was it Rush or Sean? Also why would ANY president do this?
connor 7 months, 2 weeks ago
For one thing with such high unemployment do you think we should be letting all these immigrants in?
Seriously you want a source link for all the foreign aid sent out per year?
CommanderBarkfeather 7 months, 2 weeks ago
Connor,
Can you suggest a way to keep them out of territory that was once theirs? The Israelis, Slavs, and native American Indians would like to know.
Also, are we now equating foreign aid with wealth redistribution? Perhaps we should nuke Haiti? Are the churches and charities in on this vast conspiracy?
connor 7 months, 2 weeks ago
Theirs?
Are you saying taking money from American's and sending it to all these other countries isn't wealth redistribution? Really?
Charities and churches can do what they want with the money that is given to them none of my business because I will give tot he one's that use it the way I think it should be used.

Holts Summit - Lets move down here I am getting tired of the thin column text.
More to the point if my house caught fire I doubt the fire department would get here soon enough to make much difference.
Next question?
connor 7 months, 2 weeks ago
You really have no clue as to how rural fire protection is paid for do you? It has changed here and there as the population density increases. As a matter of fact it has been so long it maybe is different in my neck of the woods now then it was years ago. This exposes the problems with your socialistic liberal ideas. Not everyone lives in the same environment as you envision or are familiar with. The same services are not available to rural property owners and their needs are much different hence your social engineering laws, taxes and regulations are many times a problem at least and down right dangerous to the extreme is some situations.

RobHunterJohnson 7 months, 2 weeks ago
Here is some nice quotes from LT 10/18/12 "Akin explains the thuggery and thievery at the heart of modern goverment. In his words "doers" had spent centuries building wealth until the "takers" elected FDR and used democratic procedures to legally steal via Social Security, Medicare, and any variety of goverment programs. Todd Akin " legitimate rape" comment was no slip of the tongue. The congressman harbors a radical worldview that bears no resemblance to the conservatism of my youth. " (Jeff Bloodworth) I too was a conservative until I had a dose of Bush 1, I felt to this day that Bush 1 was happy if we all earned $10.00 an hour! We did not need Health Care, (HC the only one that was important to me at the time) (Take note Conner) Social Security, and Medicare! Todd Akin comes on the scene and would be happy with the Dark Ages again with the cutting of SS, MC HC, ED, MW, and U! Just ask any retired Republican how important SS and MC are? Remeber Todd Akin and all these fine congressman don't use SS or MC! Those retired Republicans just turn there heads, silence, or they have to fix that; as you press deeper into conversation of what is really going on? Rob

Conner the hiring of temps is the corperate approch to keeping down cost, just like in the union, non union, or State: is it CHEAPER to work OverTime instead of hiring more people? The cost by the hour is a lot cheaper, with the same benefts being paid in? This is the Ideology of our beloved want to be President, and it is reflected by the way he ran Bain! TEMPS have been all over Central MO, at least since Reagan broke the air traffic controllers! Look where that got us, their watching movies, and sleeping? Not all were involved but enough for us to take notice. Rob
connor 7 months, 2 weeks ago
Ha. It's your open arms liberal principals that promote temp workers and reduce pay. NO matter how you slice it you cannot pay for unions for everyone therefore you must make some sector pay for it while not receiving benefits.
It is your liberal principals that cause saturation in the marketplace and reduce worker leverage overall.
And the temp army has grown much larger the last four years. Five years ago a company hired temps and was lucky if those temps could read or write. Today they get at least a high school education and many a college grad hiring temps. Again you have saturated the market and made it impossible for workers to compete.
Paroquet 7 months, 2 weeks ago
Connor,
Back that up with something other than yourself.
I presume you're talking about employers failing to validate citizenry and illegal immigrants taking jobs that educated americans won't? Tyson in Sedalia got their clock cleaned not all that long ago if you recall. Also, unions are funded by their members. Although that wouldn't have been the case for state workers had Holden's Exec. Order not been nullified.
But do, pray tell how liberals have "saturated the market". As with our exchange yesterday, I can't tell what in blazes you are talking about.
connor 7 months, 2 weeks ago
Your not following me is to be expected. No matter it has no effect on the final outcome.
What employees pay into unions is no where near what they need to run, especially if you count pensions and the like. It's simple deficit spending the money has to come from somewhere so these companies have union shops and non-union shops. Temp employees that are hired and then let go before union membership is mandatory etc etc. These temp employees are cheap enough to allow the union ones to continue.
As far as saturation goes it is the whole enchilada. Open borders, amnesty, green cards. It all adds up legal and illegal we are obviously importing in more labor than we need. Both Republican and Democrat politicians have helped it along but it is still a liberal/progressive agenda that has forced all politicians to support it.

Ya go back to scooolastic. They run a union shop out East and the employees in Missouri and Arkansas foot the bill for it. Now they almost hire exclusively temps. They are obviously NOT a republican run business either.
RobHunterJohnson 7 months, 2 weeks ago
The best way to do the temp is to hire them in for a 1000 hrs the cut them loose, No Health? No Retirement, and No job after 1000 hrs. Ameren does it, so do alot of others! May Tag blew in here like a whirl wind, to escape the Unionized shops of Iowa? Going to build maybe 5 Bldgs here in JC, Built 1, worked it to the end of the Tiff from good old JC, and drug up to Mexico? Cannot find much on Richard Robinson (Schoolastic), Maybe he is capitalizing on selling books for education with children in mind. The temp is right up the Republican Business owners aisle. How about that HEADLINE, Romney Business allies finish strong arguement VOTE WITH US OR YOUR FIRED! THE KOCH BROTHERS SENT THIS OUT AS WELL AS ALOT OF OTHER REPUBLICAN BUSINESS OWNERS! INFORM THERE EMPLOYEES EVEN THE ONES THEY HAVE LAID OFF THAT IF YOU DON'T VOTE REPUBLICAN YOU WILL LOSE YOUR JOB? I would bet they like TEMPS what do you think Conner? Sorry you don't like schoolastic, I think they do a great job with childrens material, but you have a problem with education in general! Rob
connor 7 months, 2 weeks ago
Well scholastic is a liberal business so I can see where despite their tax avoidance schemes you would wave a flag for them anyway. Typical Liberal double standards just like your immigration/union theory and Republicans.
These companies do it because they have a never ending supply of workers to juggle. I don't expect a union guy like yourself to see reason. You guys won't even let non-union emergency volunteers help after a hurricane.
Oh the Humanity!!!
connor 7 months, 2 weeks ago
I believe I already addressed that issue. Scroll up. Business will do what they have to do regardless of whatever public ideology they pay lip service to. You liberals have just painted them into a corner and allowed them more leeway in other directions that are hurting the American worker more than just leaving the entire thing be.
connor 7 months, 2 weeks ago
HS I don't really believe there are liberal and conservative business deep down. Certainly some will openly support an ideology if it gets them somewhere but regardless of what they pay lip service to that company will then turn around and use whatever rule, legislation or lack there of they can to make money.
That was my original point really. Liberals are always going on about big business this, big business that and thinking it will make some impression but you guys don't try and stop the real underlying causes for big business' advantage you just scream and want to treat the symptoms.
RobHunterJohnson 7 months, 2 weeks ago
As for the Imigration Union thought I wrote that is true, you are wrong brother, wrong go to the corner and sing you are still wrong. They do not have an endless supply of workers, NT where are they going to get all the help? That was when they added on to Schoolastic. They are not Emergency Volunteers, they are called Travelers and would have made great money if they would have signed a one time contract or as permit. They support legislation to make the 14th apply to unborn children. Again you keep insisting that will outlaw abortions and I keep pointing out it doesn't by their own later clauses. None of this which is binding to a candidate and none of which either candidate has said they will follow.
And Veterans were mentioned at the Republican convention. And once again I am not a Republican.
Your continued reference to abortion issues is getting tiresome as well and in fact mean nothing. Keep focusing on it though because the voters you used to bring in by screaming abortion everywhere have finally figured out there are more important things pressing on them than abortions at will.

Are you still here? And still going on about abortions? No one is going to block a rape victim from getting an abortion. Give it up already.
And I certainly never said or even implied I was infallible. Only a liberal would make that kind of claim.

The Tea Party is about the war on our wallets not women.
connor 7 months, 2 weeks ago
Hey I found it!!!
"Through Obamacare, the current Administration has promoted the notion of abortion as healthcare. We, however, affirm the dignity of women by protecting the sanctity of human life. Numerous studies have shown that abortion endangers the health and well-being of women, and we stand firmly against it."
I went back and looked at your linked article. Now since a Constitutional amendment can only be accomplished by a convention of the States and a Republican committee would know that I have determined your linked article is nothing more than propaganda and lies. Overblown fear mongering the likes of which you adhere to for your own ends. In fact it shows the entire basis for your argument and as far as I am concerned calls any link you would make in the future to be viewed as complete garbage.

Here is another abortion reference
including mental health treatment, drug treatment, and treatment involving pregnancy, contraceptives and abortion. We urge enactment of pending legislation that would require parental consent to transport girls across state lines for abortions.
Seems to me they are admitting abortions are legal here and will be done.

Hi connor. Did you read the ...Our opinion..Romney for President..article that just came out? You'll love it as will all Romney fans.
connor 7 months, 2 weeks ago
Nope I was reading the Republican platform since HS is so incensed about abortion and afraid someone may try and stop them from killing children. Since I am not a Republican and it has no bearing on a candidate's position I hadn't actually read through it before. It's not bad actually.

I figured you needed a little break before you acquired bulging neck veins : )
connor 7 months, 2 weeks ago
LOL eileen my young Padwan these guys on this forum are nothing you should try going to some of the National ones. Real Clear Politics is my favorite but they link alot of stuff from other places. Most of these articles from NT I have already read and seen the discussion comments before they ever get here.

I prefer Grimms fairy tales. At least that's something I understand. The article about Romney for President had me thinking I was reading Greek as in?????????????????.
connor 7 months, 2 weeks ago
As in Plato? Aristotle?
eileen10 7 months, 2 weeks ago
Yep. Some of that philosophical stuff makes me think you have to be on drugs to understand it. And political stuff has me jumping all over the place to learn this that and the other thing. One and the same as far as I'm concerned and Ive come to the conclusion I started to late and won't live long enough to catch up. But I have fun trying even if do bounce off the walls.

I am partial to this part myself:
We oppose using public revenues to promote or perform abortion or fund organizations which perform or advocate it and will not fund or subsidize health care which includes abortion coverage.
Exactly as I believe it should be.

If the Repblican Party is so good for the US then why are they talking so much about abortion and not trying to promote job growth. I thought jobs was the number one subject. I respect opinions concerning abortion but the issue is JOBS!!!!
spelchek 7 months, 2 weeks ago
You obviously don't follow politics because the war on women started in the primaries with a question from George Stephenopolous towards Romney about taking birth control away from women. You also missed the DNC nomination of Obama, the war on women was their theme. Sandra Fluke was their rock star speaker.
RobHunterJohnson 7 months, 2 weeks ago
A another poster who does not want to pay Taxes, Sandra Fluke was a speaker, because of RUSH the one so revererd by the 3 of the NT post it club! Bill Clinton was the star of the Democratic convention! He told it to the Nation straight up, this is what Republicans have Planned and it is 'Arithmetic', I call it TRICKENOMETRY, It is all about Social Security, Medicare, Health Care, Jobs, and the economy! ROMNEYS FAMILY OWNS THE VOTING MACHINES IN OHIO? HIG Capital, and of the 22 Directors for HIG 21 are donors, a 3rd were former officials at Bain? HIG is largely owned by Solamere, and was started in 2008 by no other thanTagg Romney? NEED I SAY MORE! A mystery co from TN donates 5 million to Freedom Works, specialty group? Thomas Peterffy, the poor Hungarian 57 richest guy in the US, 77th in the world? He is on all our TVs except the well informed who do not own television sets? "US stocks rise on strong economic data" Is the Stock market better off than 4 years ago? yes. Solid Jobs growth before election" these are a couple of headines from the NT this week! The job scene could be better, but it does not look like 4 years ago! "CEOs warn of peril from deficit" ST Louis Post Dispatch " The CEOs said the solution requires a combination of higher TAXES and reduced Goverment spending including entitlement programs such as Medicare, and Medicade. They also seek federal investment in infrastructure and math and science education."Some on this page say, They are not Republicans but they align with the Tea Party by their postings, Norquist 90, Congressmen pledge to no new Taxes, did not Bush 1 say that line? They don't want Health Care, they don't want to pay taxes, Just wish the goverment would, leave me alone attitude? Some even relate this all to star wars? How did star wars get to the place in the fiction world, with investment in infrastructure, education, especially in the Math and Sciences. Including the Biology some Missouri Congressman missed out on, probably while they were fighting about evoulution in TN! So lets cut EDUCATION. The Rich have only one thing on their mind, and it is not the MIDDLE CLASS! Gary Trudeau summed it all up this weekend: "You know it just amazes me that only a few years after the economy was brought to its knees by a gang of predatory wall street plutocrats, that the GOP would nominate a predatory wall street plutocrat" VOTE FOR OBAMA,MCCASKILL 2012! Well look at the Republican Platform HS was so good as to bring into light 3633. They have an entire section on jobs and the economy and it's pretty good too.
Democrats are the ones all over abortion because it has worked for them in the past and they need a miracle now. They are hoping.

As soon as Romney is elected the AP will change their economic tune, I guarantee it.

"Solid"? How many of those jobs are minimum wage? I just heard a report how employers will drop their employees hours below 40 hrs/wk to avoid paying the Obamacare tax penalty. What goes around comes around.
TrueStory 7 months, 2 weeks ago
Wrong full time is now 30 hours a week, thanks Obamacare!
JCLifer 7 months, 2 weeks ago
Employers will drop their employees below 30 hours a week to keep them part-time. 30 hours is the threshold as to when employers must provide insurance coverage under ObamaCare next year.
spelchek 7 months, 2 weeks ago
Another sign of "solid" job growth? It's getting to the point I can't read anything auth0red by AP.
Filter doesn't like "auth0red".
TrueStory 7 months, 2 weeks ago
Yep I know a lot of employers going with this plan. I just got a 1000 dollar bill becuase my insurance thinks I should have started a policy earlier on an employee. Really, they want money for months my employee didn't see the doctor becuase she didn't have insurance. Anthem BCBS has reverted to stealing from the employer and I can't do anything about it because if I don't pay they will cancel the policy.

Correcting numbers to the employment rate will be released quietly next week. That is how the game is played.
Crcknup 7 months, 2 weeks ago
People are so uninformed about "Obamacare". Groups will drop health benefits when they figure out that the "penalty" will be much less out of their pockets than the monthly premiums or they will drop employees under 30 hours per week and avoid it all together! Then everyone will get to choose from 3 lovely plans (federally mandated) ONLINE and get lousy coverage!! Any employer who does keep group health intact will then realize that the plan they have for their employees is well ABOVE what the federal government mandates and will lower the coverage to the bottom choice of those 3 lovely plans and again the coverage will be WORTHLESS!! Everyone will be paying out the you know what to have a $5,000 deductible, low co-insurance plan to get the lowest premium, but by God we will ALL have healthcare or pay the price! Guess what...we will be PAYING THE PRICE REGARDLESS!! And believe me, insurance carriers aren't stupid...they are already looking at ways to pass this HEALTHCARE FOR ALL right on down to the consumer!! Community hospitals and small-town providers will go under! Also, as a side note...people don't understand that EACH state can decide whether or NOT to expand Medicaid! I'm a licensed healthcare professional...I have sat in on many insurance carrier meetings discussing how this will pan out and it WON'T be pretty people!! Lord help us all....

Of course. Government-run programs are always the most expensive and the most inefficient. Government caters to the lowest common denominator.
Defense contracts may have fraud and waste. Just wait to see what the fraud and waste and kickbacks are with ObamaCare. There won't be anything anyone can do about it. Those who complain will get mandatory regular meetings with their local Death Panels.
ObamaCare is socialism, pure and simple. If you want to fix healthcare in this country, open it up, deregulate it. Let the free market competition determine the winners and losers. Government can only reduce and destroy- it never makes anything better.
asb 7 months, 2 weeks ago
The burning bag of poo on your porch (worth lots less then four years ago) is brought to you by deregulation and "opening up" of the financial sector. I'll pass on that for my healthcare. You are right about government programs always having waste and fraud, in fact any human activity does. Government the most? Probably, and likely due to having a service driven, rather than a profit driven, leadership. Waste can be brought down to manageable levels with constant participation by all stakeholders (gag). It's hardest in the defense sector since watchers are quickley labeled traitors. All government, all corporate, all church and all hybrid organizations can always be streamlined and improved, Denning showed us the most basic tools. No sane progressive has ever said otherwise. Determining what we want government to do and funding it through balanced taxation rather than trying to destroy, is what politics should be about. Attacking government as an entity is ignorant, provincial, selfish, greed driven, and basic evil. Picking on government waste, attacking fraud and abuse, and constantly badgering the government to do better is the only valid patriotism. The Tea Party is our enemy; the wistleblower our hero. When Congress is once again peopled by politicians who respect a well managed government, we'll all suffer less and be more prosperous, not just a few.

Well said. The principle impediment to good and efficient governance currently is politics and politicians.
